#davesdailychallenge (61): Tenets of Leadership Part 2. The Marine Corps taught me many things. Chief among them is the level of service and dedication a leader owes to those that follow them. A highly ranked enlisted Marine, who I was lucky enough to serve with during the war in Iraq, used to sum it up like this: “Sir, give everything to your Marines. Give them your loyalty. Take care of them. Make sure they know there is nothing you wouldn’t do for them. Do that, and they’ll walk barefoot into hell for you.” He was right. While this saying might seem a bit drastic outside of an environment like war I assure you it is not. The same lessons he imparted on me apply to every team and organization that you are a part of as well. If you are asking your team to go the distance with you; if you are asking them to hold a vision close to their hearts that you see so perfectly; if you are requiring them to deliver when it matters most then that requires that you give them everything you have first. When members of a team trust each other and their leadership there is no limit to what they can accomplish together. Take that walk together…shoes not required.
