#davesdailychallenge (79): You Are Allowed! This is such a simple concept I’m almost surprised it isn’t much more widespread. I think Simon Sinek does a great job at clearly explaining this but there is such a thing as rules that are good, if not great, for an organization to thrive. The reality though is that many organizations, too many in my opinion, use their rules as a way to tell their members what they can’t do. So, due to the popularity of the first “Let’s Get Tactical” post a few weeks back here is tactical post #2:
Frame your organization’s rules in what people are allowed to do.
Simon’s rules are a great example. You are allowed to:
1. Make the decision you think is the right decision to make.
2. Start something that needs to be started to help advance the cause.
3. Ask for help whenever you want it.
4. Help others whenever you can (even if they don’t ask for it).
5. Take time off to do something that inspires, excites, and energizes you.
Your team’s guiding rules don’t have to look like this but whatever you do, tell your people, and yourself, that you are, more than anything, ALLOWED! Hold each other and yourselves accountable to them. Good luck my friends.
