#davesdailychallenge (84): Legacy. Over the past year I have been fortunate enough to speak directly with six extremely financially successful people about their lives and what motivates them currently. Each of these people are currently 48 years of age or older. One is in her 70’s. There are both men and women; parents and those with no children; and some are married, single, and divorced. The great part of this is that I didn’t plan any of these talks. They came about organically. Without exception the takeaway from each of these chats was the importance placed on the legacies they were leaving. There was no discussion at all about the pursuit of wealth unless I specifically asked. All they cared about, now that their resource needs were satisfied, was the greater impact they were leaving on the world and their families. Naturally there is a level of financial independence that many, if not all of us, are in pursuit of but we can all remind ourselves that once our needs are met that other issues will arise to supplant our old concerns. I personally believe the pursuit of financial profit can be a great thing if done the right way as it unlocks so many other doors but never forget that it isn’t the only thing. Our legacies mean much more and the positive impact you have on people around you will last much longer, and be more widespread, than your net worth. Good luck my friends.
