Balance is Overrated – Daily Growth

#davesdailychallenge (87): Balance is overrated. We hear about this concept of balance a lot nowadays don’t we? What if you need imbalance from time to time? While I am a HUGE believer in maintaining a long term point of view when it comes to mental and physical well-being in the workplace, and in all facets of our lives, and the work/life balance that goes along with that, I have found that nearly every major accomplishment I have achieved is a direct result of the imbalance present in the moment of accomplishment. When I am with my family, I am 100% present and they are what matters most to me. Outside of emergencies or legitimate need, as opposed to want, my priority is not a balanced approach. It is, by definition, the presence of imbalance weighted towards being with my wife and son. When I am at work or practicing my chosen professional craft I am 100% laser focused on that pursuit. Once again, it is the presence of imbalance that drives that success. The key here, however, is to know when and how to apply this imbalance in our lives. Should every minute be balanced? Every hour? Every day? Are we looking at longer time horizons to find this illusive balance? I would put to you that the full engagement of being in the moment allows you to excel at your chosen pursuit, whether it is personal or professional. The success that comes from that full engagement then allows you the freedom to be fully engaged with other facets of your life in their respective moments. This cycle of imbalance in the moment but balance in the whole can lead to happiness and success without the anxiety that so often comes with our modern lives. I’m far from perfect but this has helped me. Good luck my friends.
