#davesdailychallenge (93): Results Matter. How much you learned, your best intentions, and the effort you expended matter. They do not, however, matter more than results. In the end, make no mistake that you will be judged on whether or not you delivered results when it mattered most. This certainly applies at varying degrees of intensity throughout life but the take away is the same. If you are entrusted/asked/ordered/paid to do a job and you don’t deliver results that might very well be the last time you receive that trust and the compensation you receive for your time and talents, often in the form of money, is a sign of deep trust. Highly paid professionals are often in that state because they are trusted to deliver results.
How we deliver results is the differentiating factor in so many scenarios though. Do you grind your team into dust in order to ship a product on time and under budget? Congratulations on the completion of your shipment but don’t expect to be able to do that again. Your best team members won’t put up with that nonsense. One of the primary themes of this challenge series is to coach others on how to produce results the right way. While there is no one perfect way of doing this, there are common themes that apply to nearly all businesses and organizations. I spoke about one of the background themes of team culture yesterday. I promise you if the team cares about each other they will deliver results together. If you’re looking for something more tangible in this discussion I would recommend you, when in doubt, simplify. This will allow you to remain more focused on your endstate and how best to reach that point. This path consistently delivers results and in the end, that is what matters most. Good luck my friends.
