How Coachable Are You Really?

#davesdailychallenge (105): How Coachable Are You Really? I’ve said it once but it bears repeating. One of the most rewarding things I have in my life are mentor/mentee relationships. It doesn’t matter what role I am in within the particular relationship but that trust is a truly rewarding thing. After a string of extremely good conversations over the last month with various people I got to thinking about what it is that sets these conversations apart from others. While there is certainly more than one straight forward reason, I would have to say that the honest openness towards being coached defines these discussions. Both mentor and mentee alike approach the alliance with an attitude of learning. We leave our biases at the door as best we can and spend more time listening than talking. As a result of this openness we both leave the conversation feeling like better versions of ourselves and, in the end, that is what it’s all about. At this point I’m sure you know how I feel about the importance of both finding and being a mentor but another major part of this is the ability to be coachable. If you don’t have it, you will be forever relegated to your current state. Be better than that. Good luck.
