Knowing vs. Doing

#davesdailychallenge (110): Knowing vs. Doing. I have had the opportunity to interact with a large set of diverse organizations from major Fortune 500 business to non-profits to two-person entrepreneurial ventures. In these experiences I have learned a very important lesson about culture. One extremely telling element of a high-performance and positive team culture is when the members know the right thing to do and actually do it without someone looking over their shoulder. This “knowing vs. doing” sounds simple, and truthfully it is, but it is far from easy. Too often team members will know the right thing to do in a particular situation and actively choose not to do that thing unless they are being directly supervised. That little voice in the back of your mind is telling you the right path. If your team members have the courage to listen to it and act upon it then your team is heading in the right direction. If team members need an audience before they’ll listen to that voice, a problem can potentially exist. Don’t let it go unchecked. Good luck my friends.
