#davesdailychallenge (137): Work That Matters. Really think about this for a minute: How many times have you been a part of a team, as a leader or otherwise, that is really doing work that matters where everyone loves you? I know I never have. One of the lessons I have taken away from my first 15 +/- years in the professional world is that if you are really trying to make an impact and do great work you are going to ruffle some feathers. To try to please everyone is to invariably please no one. Do not be afraid of being unpopular if you know in your heart that what you are doing is the right thing. Regardless of whether or not I personally agree with a leader’s actions I always respect the courage to do work that matters. We certainly need to be aware of our actions and not create a punitive culture within our team, but to make decisions based solely on popularity is the exclusive realm of those that have succumbed to fear and that isn’t you.
