Back On Track

#davesdailychallenge (140): Back on Track. It is so damned easy to lose your focus. Just look at me…I set out in the first few days of this year to write every single day and up to a point I was doing really well. I worked through resistance in order to publish meaningful content. I planned ahead and executed on a consistent schedule. I established my own deadlines and met them…again and again and again. Then something happened. I made an excuse and my internal voice to tell me I was giving in to resistance and losing my fight with the monster that is procrastination wasn’t loud enough. I have a long list of reasons why this happened each of them as irrelevant as the next. About a month ago I just stopped writing. I allowed other items to become priorities. These other items were arguably much more important than publishing my daily pieces in the grand scheme of things but can I look myself in the mirror and say that I honestly didn’t have time to do everything? No, I can’t do that. I can’t do that because I made a choice to not write and I made it day after day after day until it was no longer part of my daily practice. If you’ve been reading these since the beginning you might remember that one of the reasons I started this practice was to force myself to be in the mindset of creation. If I was writing original content every day then I would be much more prone to be in a productive state. Creating something from nothing has always been a great way for me to start an avalanche of productivity. A little builds into a lot. It’s amazing how quickly one can allow the little things to take away from what really matters. I’m back on track and have great stuff coming up but just think for a second how my screw-up example relates to you in your life. Is there something you’ve put off so many times that ignoring it has become a part of your routine? I’ll bet you there is. It could be exercise, preparing clean food, or working on your entrepreneurial venture. In the end it comes down to one thing. You either do it or you don’t. Excuses will never make up for not showing up when it matters.
