#davesdailychallenge (158): The Long Lonely Road of Busy. How often do you hear the words “I’m busy”? How often do you say those words? If your world is anything like mine you hear it often. Now, here’s the more important question: how often are the words “I’m too busy” used, either by yourself or others, as a way to escape from the truly challenging, and often uncomfortable but necessary, work? Again…same answer…most likely very often. This entire conversation is really about one thing: the future. The future of your business, your team, your college sorority/fraternity, your non-profit, and/or your family is what is at stake here. Are you really too busy to take your significant other out on a date? Are you really too busy to discuss how your team is going to innovate new products and services to ensure your future success? Are you really too busy to take care of your friends, team members, or family? The answer, as we all secretly know, is no. We aren’t actually too busy. We choose to prioritize one thing over another. These choices build up and before we know it an entire culture of everyone running around “too busy” has taken over and all of the difficult work like transforming cultures, upgrading team members, innovating products, and building future leaders has taken a back seat to a contrived sense of survival in the moment. Follow that lonely road and you will end up irrelevant. Keep your priorities straight and you will do more than survive, you will thrive.
